When it comes to names, some people are fond of nicknames and will go to great lengths to try and find a way to shorten a name, any name, into a nickname, while others despise them and will deliberately choose a baby name that is virtually impossible to shorten.
This latest trend, however, might suit both camps. How about giving your baby a name that is actually already a nickname? Meaning, they get to have a cute, short name, and yet the decision to give them that is entirely your own, and not for someone else to come up with.
Genius, no?
If you are a little stuck as to what to go for, here are 10 nicknames we think are totally good enough as actual, full names:
1. Louie
Cuteness!
2. Gwen
Credit Gwen Stefani for coolifying this short form of Gwendolyn.
3. Theo
A cool o-ending nickname name for boys, Theo is already in the Top 40 list for popular boys’ names in countries like England, Germany, Sweden and Norway.
4. Dash
Originally a short form of Dashiell, you can thank Kourtney Kardashian for having brought this name a few hundred places up on the popular list.
5. Frankie
Frankie has become a hot nickname name for girls. Credit the celebrity factor to Drew Barrymore, who used it in full, and Amanda Peet, who chose it as the nickname for daughter Frances.
6. Rosie
Whilst before Rosie was mostly used as a pet name for someone named Rose or Rosemary, we think Rosie works perfectly as a name all by itself.
7. Mack
If you are a little fed up with all the Jack’s knocking about, how about the slightly more unusual Mack instead?
8. Charlie
This previous boys-only nickname has been in use for girls more than their brothers for several years now, and we can’t help but feel that the mega-rise of the name Charlotte (thanks, Kate!) will give us many more ‘Charlies’ in the years to come.
9. Penny
No need to give your tot the mouthful of a name that is Penelope (unless you want to, of course). We think Penny is totally adorable as a full name too.
10. Alfie
Alfred has substance as a name, for sure, but we can’t help but think that Alfie is pretty much as adorable as you can get.
