20 ‘Marmite’ baby names you’ll either love or hate

Do you like any of these names?

Settling on a name for your bundle can be tough.

You want the name to be liked, but not so popular that they will be sharing the name with half of their eventual class at school.

It has to be unique, but not too unique. And, understandably, you’d want it to sound perfect with your surname.

It is, like we said, quite tricky.

‘Marmite’ names are growing in popularity, but you’re either going to love or hate them.

But what is a ‘marmite’ name? It is one that people love or hate -much like the spread itself.

A study conducted by ChannelMum found that almost half of parents have been criticized about their baby name’s choice.

And while the names may be divisive, 94 percent of parents go on to use the ‘marmite’ names that they love.

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and a name which delights one person won’t work for another,” Channel Mum’s baby-naming expert SJ Strum said. “The days of having a few safe – and dull – baby names to choose from are long gone. There are over 60,000 baby names in use in the UK and this number is ballooning year on year as parents seek unique monikers, so it’s likely even more names will be added to the Marmite list.

“But the best name rule is if you love it, go for it, but do check that the child’s full name initials don’t spell something silly, and, of course make sure it won’t open up your child to ridicule.”
