Trying to find the right name for your little one?
We feel your pain, mama: it’s definitely tricky enough to do.
Whatever name you pick has to be popular, but not so popular that they will be sharing the name with half of their eventual class at school.
It has to be unique, but not too unique. And, understandably, you’d want it to sound perfect with your surname.
But it doesn’t mean that you have to choose anything too complicated, though: after all, sometimes sort and sweet is the best way to go.
Whether you’re looking for something that’s more on the classic side, or something a bit more unusual; something geeky or just plain cool – there’s no shortage of names that are short by packed with plenty of personality.
And, as it turns out, they’re even favoured by experts.
Marc Hauser, the founder and managing director of baby naming company Erfolgswelle, told The Telegraph:
“Keep it short and simple. A name should not feel crowded, or be difficult to spell or pronounce.
“It must be striking, yes, but also sound natural — and not a word that you have simply created to be different.”
We’ve rounded up 20 of our favourite choices of shorter names for boys and girls.
