Because it looks like soon you might not. According to new data from the Baby Centre in the UK, no baby has yet to be registered with these names in 2017. Which makes us think… are there any in Ireland?
These baby names which were extremely popular seventies and eighties are getting replaced with celebrity inspired baby names. According to the company, trending baby names for this year included: Freddie, Alfie, Theo, Archie and Charlie and for girls, names like Mia, Evie, Lily, Ivy and Ava were top of the list.
Baby Centre’s managing editor Sarah Redshaw spoke to Grazia saying:”We see names rise and fall in popularity over the years but some names do fall out of favour completely, if you are looking for a unique name for your baby that won’t be shared with lots of other children then maybe Cilla or Clarence should be on your list.”
Although we thought names like Edmund and Karen were still popular, it looks like we were wrong. Short three to four letter baby names are taking over and those on the endangered list might just slip off the radar before the end of 2017. Who knows.
