Got a growing bump that is going to need a name soon?

Finding a moniker for your little one can be such an ordeal. While some want a name that no-one else sports, others are more concerned about picking something with a more classy and traditional ring to it.

If you like names that are short and sweet, the one-syllable baby name might be perfect for you. Here are eight reasons why it can be a great idea to keep your baby’s name a short one:

1. It’s easy

Short names are easy to remember. Face it. People can be absent-minded. But a nice, short and to-the-point name? They have no excuse for forgetting it.

2. It’s simple
Short names mean less to memorise, so your kid can save their brain-space for learning other stuff.

3. It’s definitive
Short names are definitive. It’s like a great big statement wrapped up in an adorable package.

4. No nicknames

This is a great reason if you live in Ireland, where everyone somehow ends up with a nickname. (I mean; how many Bocco’s, Jocco’s and Spud’s do you know?!). Short names tend to not get twisted into nicknames – it’s just to hard to do. Sure, some people like nicknames. But when you choose your baby’s name, it’s nice to choose the actual name that people will call them.

5. They fit

Short names can usually be embroidered on just about anything. Initials are nice, but how cute would it be to have Ava or Finn embroidered IN FULL onto their schoolbag? Just saying…

6. It’s classic

Short one-syllable names are classic. They are also elegant, strong and beautiful. What more could you ask for in a name?

7. It’s confusion free

Short names are easy to spell. Wouldn’t it be good if your child wouldn’t have to deal with answering to the omnipresent question of: “Could you spell that?”

8. It’s versatile

Short names are like black: they go with everything. Long last name or short last name, it doesn’t matter. These one-syllable baby names just work.
