The bizarre baby names that became popular amongst parents in 2018

There’s some very quirky ones in there.

When it comes to baby names, personal choice is very apparent. Some people love traditional Irish ones like Niamh, Aoife, Aine and Aisling. Others have an affinity for one syllable names or naming babies after previous family members. And then there are the trends, we’ve heard of things like the celestial theme with names like Luna, Leo, Aurora and Orion cropping up.

There have been a fair few celebrity babies born this year and with it, more unusual names to consider, if that’s your thing.

Hilary Duff had her little girl, Banks, Kate Hudson had Rani Rose and Cardi B gave birth to Kulture in July. Baby Centre has reported three prevalent baby name trends to hit in 2018 and some are very quirky!

1) Kardashian/Jenner inspired names

They’re pretty well known for choosing unusual names such as North, Saint, Chicago and Dream and some of these have seen a surge in popularity. Baby centre says, Kylie’s daughter’s name, Stormi jumped 63 percent and Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna’s pick, Dream rose 42 percent.  The name Nori, the nickname of North, daughter of Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West, jumped 14 percent among girls.

As for boys, Kim and Kanye’s Saint leapt 42 percent, and Reign, the name of Kourtney’s third child, is up 27 percent.

2) Food-related names

We’ve yet to meet any Kale, Kiwis or Maples but apparently, those names are becoming a firm favourite among new parents. Clemintine, Saffron and Rosemary are also some of the most liked from this year.
