If you’re currently trying to decide on a baby name, you might be looking for something brand new and unique, a name that few people have used in the past.

However, time is a funny aul’ thing, and often, especially when it comes to trends, the passing of time has a way of making the old feel brand new – and super-trendy – again.

How about that, mama? Instead of looking for a name no-one has heard of, maybe you should start looking back – to names that everyone has heard of – back in the day. Yup, it’s true. There are some true baby name gems in the monikers of yesteryears, and we are willing to bet they are about to start getting really popular again soon. So make sure you get in there first.

1. Alphonse

The best bit? You can call him Alfie for short.

2. Aurelia

Aurelia comes from the Latin word “aureus,” meaning “golden.” So if you’re looking for a perfect name to describe your own little nugget of gold, this might be it.

3. Lowell

Originally a last name, Lowell is also an excellent choice for a first name for your bundle of joy.

4. Emmeline

Sweet and unique, and you can call her ‘Em’ for short.

5. Lemuel

Lemuel was the name of a biblical king, so a real ‘oldie, but goodie’ we think.

6. Cleo

As perfect for a modern day princess as it was an ancient one.

7. Clarence

Clarence has an air of royalty about it, and was used for centuries by the British royal family as a title of nobility, the Duke of Clarence.

8. Cordelia

Timeless and elegant.

9. Jasper

The name, which was popular from about 1880 to 1920, is now enjoying a second lease of life in the 21st century – and it’s easy to understand why.

10. Rosalind

Little Rosa to you and me.
