Mum-of-two shares her biggest regrets when picking the names for her sons

Picking a name for your little one can be tough.

But sometimes, there’s one magical moniker that simply first: whether it is at the first kick or when their bundle is born.

One mum has recently told how she knew what sh wanted to call her two sons before they were even born – and that she felt she had made the perfect decision.

Even though she’s happy with the names that she ultimately ended up picking, there’s one thing that she says she wished she did differently.

In a post on Scary Mommythe woman explained that she regrets telling people the names she and her partner were thinking of.

The name they picked for their first son was Benjamin, named after her grandfather, and got stuck on the middle name.

But once the honest mum told her loved ones about their decision, she recalled how they were all quick to have a say in it.

She said:

“Everyone had an opinion about the middle name—passionate opinions, tearful opinions.

“I understood to some extent: When you are talking about beloved family members who are gone and missed, it can get that way.

“But I had severely underestimated the insistence that certain members of my family had about which names we (the parents!) should choose.

“We ended up giving him my husband’s maternal grandfather’s name as a middle name.

“Part of it was because we liked this name best; part of it was the bond my husband had with his grandpa; but part of it was…pressure, guilt, and a whole lot of freaking pressure.”

When she became pregnant with her second son, she told her family they were thinking about the name Peter – after the Peter Pan books, which Benjamin loved, and King Peter in the Narnia books.

However, some of the family members were not impressed, begging the mum not to name the little boy Peter – and leaving her in tears.

The final choice ended up being made by Benjamin.

She said that after Peter was born, he had his eyes closed and a “cute little crooked jaw line” – which led to them calling him Popeye.

When Benjamin came in later to meet him, he asked his parents what name they had decided on.

And when his parents were quick to tell him that they hadn’t decided on one yet, he immediately looked at them like they “had nine heads”.

The mum explained:

“When we told him that we hadn’t decided on a name yet, he looked at us like we had nine heads. ‘His name is Peter,’ he said, incredulous.

“That sealed the deal, and we were happy to name him that. As for our family members who didn’t approve, they never uttered another word.”
