Choosing a name for your child is pretty important.
After all, it’s probably going to be the name they’re called for the rest of their lives.
And if not, it’ll definitely be the name that’s on their birth cert forever. Unless they decide to change it.
Essentially, there are a lot of variables here, but the name you pick is still important – important enough that you probably wouldn’t want to misspell it anyway.
One woman who did misspell the name of her daughter is an unknown mum referenced on this Mumsnet post.
The mum’s colleague took to the parenting forum to ask whether she should let her mate know that she spelled her daughter’s name, Phoebe, incorrectly.
She spelled it ‘Pheobe’ instead.
Yeah, not ideal.
The friend wrote:
“A colleague has recently announced the birth of ‘Pheobe’ on Facebook and have since referred to the baby as ‘Pheobe’ several times.
“Would I be awful to gently suggest the correct spelling or just hope it’s picked up on when they register the birth?!”
Oh dear.
While some people were adamant that the woman should tell her friend, others suggested that unless the mum was a really close friend, she shouldn’t overstep.
They said that it wasn’t up to her to solve the problem – especially seeing as this person is described as a “colleague.”
