The UK’s top 100 baby names for both boys and girls were announced this week.
Among the most popular names are some classics like Olivia, Emily, Charlie and Harry.
But a trend that has begun to emerge with new parents is a tendency for unusual spellings of names.
For the first time, the spelling of popular baby boy name Jackson was overtaken by ‘Jaxon’ on the list.
Other strange or creative spellings that popped up in the list, which was compiled by Babycentre, include Kaylub (Caleb), Liyam (Liam), Fyn (Finn), Jayson (Jason), Madyson (Madison), Roze (Rose), Wynter (Winter) and Maizie (Maisie).
The trend shows that parents are reeling against a relatively unchanged top ten, said Lorna Marsh of BabyCentre.
“By choosing an unusual spelling of a popular choice, parents can shake up the status quo while still playing it relatively safe with their children’s names,” she told Huffington Post.
