Parents are picking these baby names so their child ‘stands out’ on social media

Keeley Ryan

There’s no denying that picking a name for your bundle is tough.

Whether you’re after something more traditional or something unique, there is a whole lot to consider.

Is your boy or girl going to end up sharing a name with half of their class? Is it easy to pronounce? Does it match your surname? Do both you and your partner agree on it?

It turns out that there’s one more thing mums and dads are considering when figuring out a moniker for their child.

Baby name consultant Sherri Suzanne, who runs the website My Name for Life, said that parents are becoming more and more drawn to names that will help their kids stand out on social media.

She told the Daily Star

“Ava and Benjamin are two of today’s leaders.

“Ava is the influence behind names like Aviana, Avalyn, Eva, Evie, Evelyn and now Ada.

“Parents who’d otherwise choose Benjamin are picking alternatives like Bentley and Benson.”

She also issued advice to any parents who are searching for that elusive magical moniker – especially if they’re after a name that will make their little one’s (eventual) social media page stand out.

She continued:

“I caution parents that in an effort to make children stand out, they can also make it harder to fit in.

“Resist picking names that form jokes, puns, rhymes, or phrases that have strong negative associations.

“In an attempt to express individuality, it’s best not to create obscure and convoluted spellings.

“I think the recipe for success starts with a name that can be said with confidence—such a name can be a time-honoured classic, a trendy Top 10 or completely unique.

“A name for success has pleasant sounds and is spelled logically to achieve correct pronunciation.”
