Baby names

11th Aug 2018

The top baby boy name of 2018 is a true Irish favourite

Cathy Donohue

A name that has stood the test of time.

We’re over halfway through the year and there are some baby names proving more popular than others.

Of course, the biggest names change all the time but there are some that keep returning to the top spot, time and time again.

One of those is Liam, the number one name in 2017 and it’s reigning supreme in 2018 again, according to one particular baby name list anyway.

I’ll be honest, I’m totally biased with this name because my dad is a Liam but that aside, it’s a name that has seen a resurgence in recent times.

At the moment, BabyCenter says Liam is number one followed by Noah, Oliver, Mason and Lucas.

Given that the list is updated daily, it’s a fairly reliable summarisation of the current top names but as said it does change on the regular.

It also depends on what list you look at because over on Nameberry, the popular names are changing all the time.

At the moment, Atticus, Milo, Jasper, Jack and Asher feature in the top five but given that there are a few months left in the year, it’s likely to change considerably over the second half of 2018.

Milo, Oliver, Silas, Henry and Wyatt round up Nameberry’s top ten boys names and you can check the list out in full here.

The top baby girl names are changing all the time too but Olivia, Sophia, Emma, Ava and Isabella aren’t moving too far from the top five, yet anyway.
