Jack was once again the most popular boy’s name in Ireland.

For the 13th time in 14 years, Jack was the most popular name for baby boys in Ireland in 2020.

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) released the figures for 2020 on Friday morning, which also found that Grace was the most popular baby’s name for girls in Ireland last year.

Completing the top five for boys are James, Noah, Daniel and Conor, while top five for girls was completed with Fiadh, Emily, Sophie and Ava.

There were 3,715 different boys names used in Ireland in 2020, compared to 4,624 different names for girls.

A number of new female names were used in 2020, including Luna, Cora, Elsie and Paige, while Sonny was the only new boy’s name on the list.

The CSO also released maps showing what the most popular baby names were in each for county for boys and girls.

The CSO specified that different spellings of a name have been treated as separate names.

For example, while there were 87 boys named Eoin, another 81 had the alternate spelling Eoghan.

Similarly, in 2020, if you combine the number of girls’ named Hanna (34) and Hannah (265) then it would fall into 5th place ahead of Ava.
