Parents Will Look To The GODS For Baby Name Inspiration In 2017

Katie Mythen-Lynch

Every parent thinks their own child is a gift from God, but lately more besotted mums and dads than ever have been naming their babies after famous deities.

The names Thor, after the god of thunder and fertility, Jupiter, the sky god and Zeus, the king of the gods, are reportedly on the rise,

And it’s not just male babies who are part of the trend.

Speaking to Today, Nameberry’s Pamela Redmond revealed that 2017 will see powerful monikers such as Persephone (queen of the underworld), Pandora, Clio, Atlas, Orion and Morrigan (the mythical Irish queen of fate) hurtle up the the popularity charts.

Baby names inspired by famous feminists are also on the rise. There are more Zeldas, Fridas, Adas and Eleanors than in recent years.

“For 2017, we foresee a continual broadening of what can be considered a baby name,” Nameberry reports. “There will be more word names and place names and unexpected hero names and every category will be stretched to its extreme.”

Amazingly, no less than five parents decided to name their baby boy God last year.

At least 40 couples chose Goddess for their pride and joy. There were also 20 Lords, which is bound to confuse the British gentry in the future.
