Trending in 2019: 10 baby names we bet will be EVERYWHERE this year

Trine Jensen-Burke

You may have a name picked already – let’s face it, many of us have our ‘future baby names’ picked out long before we even fall pregnant, some even from long before we even meet the person we end up having a baby with.

However, if you want a heads-up on what names are predicted to be big this year, whether or not that make any difference to the name you have in your head already, here is a list of 10 names experts reckon will be all the rage in 2019:

1. Meghan

Sure, the wedding of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry took place in 2018, but seeing how Meghan’s own baby is due in early 2019, we reckon royal watchers will be more than a little obsessed with all things Meghan come 2019 as well.

2. Arlo

In the US, this boy name has risen 609 places since 2007, and is currently the 42nd most popular choice for parents of baby boys. More than likely, it will continue to be popular in 2019.

3. Cyrene

Thanks to the increase in technology the world is getting smaller. According to Namberry, new parents will begin to favour names from other continents as opposed to closer-to-home favourites. Ancient Greek and Israeli names are predictedt to lead the way in 2019.

4. Cora

This name that has been steadily climbing the charts since 2013, per BabyCenter. (And for what it’s worth, Pantone just named “Coral” the color of the year.)

5. Elsa

With Frozen 2 due to hit the big screen in 2019, we bet many new parents will once again be inspired by the Nordic Disney ice queen.

6. Ash

Bright color-themed names are being parred back, as parents are preferring softer hue inspiration for their new arrival. What this means, is that names like Scarlett and Ruby are being snubbed for names such as Ash and Mauve.

7. Story

Gender-neutral baby names are still going strong, and parents are loving this new crop of names that are popping up recently.

8. Eulalie

Thanks to the arrival of Prince Louis, names with an ‘oo’ sound in the middle or the end have climbed in popularity.

9. Sonny

According to Nameberry, charming boy nicknames like Jimmy and Billy are starting to appear on birth certificates. Even though these names were once only seen on old radio and tv shows, these are beginning to reappear in modern day culture.

10. Flora

The letter ‘F’ has rocketed in popularity with names beginning with F becoming all the rage.
