3 exceptional facials to sort your skin out right now

Katie Mythen-Lynch

As the weather gets warmer, it’s clearly time to ditch the heavy foundation and concealer for a fresher, lighter base….which is perfectly fine if you’re 19-year-old, vegan water drinker, but what about the rest of us?

The answer lies in the hands of a talented facialist and luckily, Ireland is home to some of the best in the business.

We went in search of the best new facials to solve common concerns, from annoying breakouts to fine lines…

The issue: Spots, damn spots

The treatment: The ESPA Skin Purifying Facial at Farnham Estate Spa & Golf Resort, Cavan

Not only is the stunning Farnham Estate an idyllic spot to while away a weekend surrounded by rolling fields and unspoilt Cavan countryside, the new range of treatments at the spa includes eight luxurious facials, each one tailored to meet your specific skin needs.

Using SkinVisionTM, a cutting edge in-depth skin analysis technology, therapists can identify skin conditions not visible to the naked eye to formulate a truly bespoke treatment. The ESPA facials on offer include the Skin Purifying Facial (€95) for oily and congested skin, a deep cleansing treatment using essential Tea Tree and White Thyme oils to soothe and calm skin for a clearer complexion.

Just 90 minutes from Dublin, Farnham Estate Health Spa is also home to a full therapy suite. After you’ve steamed and sauna-ed, bob about in the outdoor pool before your treatment. Inner calm restored.

We recommend treating yourself to an overnight (the bar and restaurant are buzzing and the beer garden is positively sun-drenched at this time of year. €249 per room B&B based on two people sharing.

The issue: Tired skin, fine lines

The treatment: The Eminence Organic Signature Facial (€100) at Anne Mc Devitt, Wicklow St., Dublin

It’s the secret weapon of stars including Jennifer Aniston, Goldie Hawn and Jessica Biel, but those in the know have been booking the celeb-endorsed, certified organic Eminence facial at Dublin’s Ann McDevitt.

The Hungarian massage techniques are like a hug for your face at the end of a long week and work to boost the circulation as a series of hot and cold herbal masques are applied.

A little (pain-free) extraction whips away dulling blackheads and spot-causing congestion.

The organic Eminence range smells so good it should be edible, so it’s no surprise it’s made entirely of fruits, vegetables and herbs, which are packed with antioxidants. stem cells and collagen-boosting phytonutrients.

Before you leave we recommend picking up some Eminence goodies to revive your skincare routine for summer.

Our favourites? The Tropical Vanilla Day Cream (it has a decent SPF 32 but it’s gentle enough to be used at night too) and the bestselling Facial Recovery Oil (mix a few drops into your moisturiser to increase hydration by a whopping 52 percent.

The issue: Discolouration, sun damage, ageing

The treatment: Super Skin Rejuvenation at The Buff Day Spa

The brilliant Buff Day Spa has long been one of our favourite city centre spots for a sneaky spa day, but now they’ve added a full medi-spa to their offering.

Using the same clever technology as their Super Hair Removal, Super Skin Rejuvenation produces younger, more toned and smooth skin for visible anti-ageing results, while also tackling freckles, dark spots, spider veins and acne.

It delivers a noticeable fresh, plump appearance to the skin, so can be used as a once off ‘red carpet’ treatment, or as a programme of skin renewal. Uniquely, a Dermalogica skin treatment is part of the advanced therapy ensuring skin is cared for internally and externally- and there’s no downtime necessary.
