Expensive blonde

It’s February and spring is in the air.

With the change of season many of us fancy a bit of a change style-wise as well, and if you had been thinking about giving your hair colour a bit of a fresh new vibe for 2022, you need to know about the shade that is tipped to be this spring’s hottest new hair colour.

Say hello to ‘Expensive Blonde’ – and we dare you not to want to run off and call your local hair salon immediately.

A few months ago, we were all talking about Expensive Brunettes… the gorgeous multi-dimensional luxe hair colour that took off for autumn/winter 2021.

However, now it’s springtime – and lighter hues are predicted to trend. Just take a look:

Celebrity hairstylist Tom Smith, took to Instagram to chat all things 2022 hair trend recently, and explained:

“You’ve all heard of the expensive brunette trend, now this is what I’m calling expensive blonde.”

In a clip shared to the social media platform, Smith discusses his hair trend predictions for spring and summer, and singled out the hair colour as the one to watch if you fancied switching – or updating – your hair blonde.

“It’s a really soft contrast so there are fewer shadows in the hair, but it’s not one set colour. There’s still dimension, there’s still highs and lows,” Tom explained. “Generally, it’s a warmer shade but I think this is really going to do well in Spring.”

In the video, Smith also showed a picture of Selling Sunset’s Chrishell Stause, who recently changed her hair colour from a caramel bronde, to a brighter, warmer blonde.

“It’s all about giving deeper hair energy, dimension, and detail,” he explains.

“I’m of the opinion that it’s a professional hair colourists’ responsibility to give clients something they could never get at home. And expertly placed highlights and lowlight can help add interest and give your blonde a look that’s more intentional and designed.”
