If your nails break constantly, you NEED to stock up on coconut oil

It's probably in your kitchen press.

Some people have fabulous nails, you know the ones that grow and grow, rarely breaking, a major source of envy for those of us with weak, brittle nails.

If you fall into the latter category, you’ll be glad to know there’s an all-natural ingredient that’s supposed to work wonders for bothersome nails – coconut oil.

Long hailed as a beauty saviour for hair and skin, it’s apparently also great for maintaining strong nails.

In conversation with Byrdie, Skyy Hadley explained how best to apply said oil for maximum nail benefits.

She recommends massaging extra-virgin coconut oil into your nail beds before you go to sleep as this allows to penetrate in overnight, ensuring your nails get as much coconut-y goodness as possible.

If you suffer from rough and/or dry cuticles, apply oil to them and let it sit for as long as possible, minimum 30 minutes, before washing off.

According to Hadley, “doing this will help strengthen your cuticles, moisturise the skin around your nails, and get rid of hangnails”.

If you keep this routine up two to four times a week, you should start to see an improvement in the condition of your nails.
