Soil to skin: The Irish superfood skincare line putting sustainability at the helm

Jade Hayden

There’s no better time to support local, lads.

So why not give it a shot with your skincare too? There are an abundance of homegrown brands out there doing the world a favour with their sustainable ethos, so why not show them a bit of love next time you’re getting yourself a haul?

Enter Nunaïa (pronounced noo-nigh-yah, for those who are wondering): the Irish skincare brand that is 100 percent natural, vegan, and organic.

You know, all of those good things you want to hear associated with your skincare collection.

Nunaïa founder Nicola Connolly spent over 10 years researching wellness with biologists and healers in small communities in Peru and Ecuador. It was there that she discovered the raw, natural ingredients that make up Nunaïa’s products.

The brand’s sourcing and manufacturing process can be traced through just three simple production points, with plants sourced from the Amazon Rainforest and Andes Mountains from a community of growers.

A portion of Nunaïa’s sales even goes directly back into supporting women and girls’ education in communities in Peru – true sustainability, if we ever saw it.

So, what about the products themselves? Well, the new line is already multi-award winning, which is really not all that surprising when you consider the time, energy, and research that has gone into each product.

Worth splashing out on if you’re at all into your organic, sustainable natural bits (the packaging is also gorgeous, just an FYI).

Superfood Cleansing Balm (€59)

In the market for something that removes all traces of makeup, pollutants, and debris entirely naturally? Of course you are – and this is it.

Certified 87 percent organic and 100 percent natural, this phyto-active balm nourishes and soothes the skin as it cleanses. It’s a superfood cleansing balm, and it does what it says on the tin.

Nourishing Radiance Serum (€79)

Fortifying and nourishing, this serum promises to deliver the perfect amount of vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, and phytonutrients to the skin.

The hydrating serum balances the skin’s natural moisture levels while reducing redness and inflammation, and creating a gorgeous glow straight from the rainforest.

Doesn’t get more glam than that really, does it?

Facial Cleansing Ovals (€19.99)

If you have yet to stop yourself from buying pack after pack of disposable makeup pads, you are not alone.

But listen, there’s no time like the present to invest in some reusable pads – or as Nunaïa call them: facial cleansing ovals.

The cloths are made from organic cotton and can be reused up to 200 times. Your cheap throw-away pads could never.

Lavender Hand Sanitiser (€6.75)

Hand sanitiser, but make it boujie – and this one certainly is because it’s made from lavender, is 70 percent alcohol, and also smells really, really nice.

Can confirm.
