The twelve-year-old is following in their mother’s famous footsteps.

Busy Philipps’ eldest child has landed their first acting role in a win for authentic representation.

Twelve-year-old Birdie, who goes by they/them pronouns, will star in the upcoming Amazon Prime series, With Love, as a non-binary character.

Showrunner Gloria Calderón Kellett (writer and co-runner of the One Day at a Time reboot) announced the casting news on Twitter.

“I first met Birdie when they were a baby,” she wrote. “It is thrilling that I now get to have them on my little show.”

Proud mama Busy was also, well, busy rejoicing, saying “This just made me cry.”

Birdie has previously allowed their mother to talk openly about them on her podcast in the hopes of educating more people on what it means to be non-binary or queer at any age.

In an episode of the podcast, Busy Philipps Is Doing Her Best, Busy said: “Bird was like, ‘I don’t give a f***. You can talk about how I’m gay and out; you can talk about my pronouns. That would be cool with me. That’s great.’

“So I said, ‘Okay, I can talk about it on the podcast.'”

The actress also revealed that her own mother struggled and wanted to understand Birdie’s identity more in an interview with Health magazine.

“My mom is older and wants to understand the pronoun conversation more,” she said. “There are some really good books out there — like What’s Your Pronoun? Beyond He & She by Dennis Baron. I said to my mother, ‘Here’s the deal: You don’t have to understand it.’

“That’s how I feel about all human rights — you don’t have to understand it. You can choose to believe what you want, but you don’t get to have jurisdiction over anyone else’s body or belief system.”

Amen to that.
