End of an era!

Ellen Pompeo will officially be leaving Grey’s Anatomy next February, it has been confirmed.

The actress played the doctor for 19 seasons, but in recent years, the character has played a smaller part on the show. Now, she’s set to call it quits for good.

The official Grey’s Anatomy Twitter page confirmed that the character of Meredith Grey will make her final appearance in February 2023.

Accompanying a video with a caption, the tweet read: “On February 23, one chapter ends and a new one begins.”

In the trailer, we see Meredith walking through Seattle Grace, saying: “Big last day!”

In the next shot, she reflects on what her character has been through.

“It’s been a lot,” she says. “A fire, moving.”

We then see Meredith surrounded by her beloved co-workers as they celebrate her final day. With some resistance, she allows them to toast to her.

The series returns next February.

Grey’s Anatomy has been running since 2005, and in recent years, Pompeo herself has suggested that it should end soon.

Last year, she said: “I’ve been trying to focus on convincing everybody that it should end,” she said.

“I feel like I’m the super naive one who keeps saying, ‘But what’s the story going to be, what story are we going to tell?’

“And everyone’s like, ‘Who cares, Ellen? It makes a gazillion dollars!'”

Earlier this year, fans were sad to see another beloved member of the cast – Ireland’s own Richard Flood – depart from the show’s roster.

Flood, who hails from Dublin, played Dr Cormac Hayes on the series. Fear not though, because he’s set to star in a brand new mystery drama, The Gone.

The series, which is currently in production, follows an Irish detective who has been tasked with tracing an Irish couple who have gone missing from a New Zealand town.
