We finally have a release date for the Home Alone reboot

Sarah McKenna Barry

We cannot wait for this.

Over 30 years after we first met Kevin McAllister, we’re all set for another wacky Christmassy adventure as the Home Alone reboot comes to our screens this winter.

The film, titled Home Sweet Home Alone will arrive on Disney Plus on November 12, and already boasts an all-star cast.

The stars rising to the challenge of rebooting one of the most popular Christmas films of all time include Ellie Kemper (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Archie Yates (Jojo Rabbit), Rob Delaney (Catastrophe), Aisling Bea (This Way Up), Kenan Thompson (Saturday Night Live) and Ally Macki (Toy Story 4), to name just a few.

While the franchise has moved on from Kevin McAllister, a new boy, Max Mercer, will be the centre of Christmas chaos after being inadvertently abandoned as his family head to Japan on holiday.

Little do they know that a crime-loving husband and wife have their hearts set on ransacking the Mercer’s plush family home, leaving young Max with the task of ousting the thieves.

Saturday Night Live writer Streeter Seidell joins Mikey Day in adapting John Hughes’ original screenplay for 21st century audiences, so we’re bound to be in store for some belly laughs along the way.

Home Sweet Home Alone has the honour of being the sixth film in the iconic Chirstmas franchise.

The first installment, simply called Home Alone, became an instant classic and gave rise to the equally beloved sequel Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.

The later films in the series – Home Alone 3, Home Alone 4: Taking Back the House and Home Alone: The Holiday Heist were all made-for-television, and were not quite as well-regarded as the first two flicks.

In any case, we eagerly anticipate the release of the reboot. After the past two years, some feel-good Christmas fun feels long overdue.

Home Sweet Home Alone arrives on Disney Plus on 12 November.
