A new documentary all about actress Brittany Murphy and her unusual death is coming to HBO Max, and the trailer has just dropped.

Looking into the mysterious surroundings of the Clueless star’s passing in 2009 at only 32 years old, the two-part documentary is set to go into more detail about the strange incident.

What Happened, Brittany Murphy? explores her legacy and rise to fame, but also goes into detail about her relationship with husband Simon Monjack, who died under the same circumstances five months after her.

Brittany was found in her LA home on December 20, 2009 after the fire department responded to a “medical assistance” call, but after trying to resuscitate her, she passed away after going into cardiac arrest in hospital not long after.

The coroner later determined her death as multiple drug intoxication, pneumonia and “iron deficiency anaemia.”

Her husband Simon then passed away on 23 May 2010, with a coroner also saying the cause of death was acute pneumonia and severe anaemia.

The documentary looks into her marriage, with people close to the star giving insights into what they believed to be a troubling relationship.

“Brittany was so wonderful,” Kathy Najimy, who worked on King of the Hill with Brittany, says in the trailer.

Najimy then adds that Monjack “came along” when Murphy was having “a little dip” in her personal life.

“I think that’s where her judgment was muddled, and she became prey,” Najimy said. “We all were scared and freaked out. Like, ‘Who was this guy?’ ”

Following her struggles in Hollywood, What Happened, Brittany Murphy? shows her changing her appearance to fit roles and fit into a certain type of image.

Amy Heckerling, director of Clueless, says in the trailer: “There was kind of a sweet, childish, lost quality that she had that just breaks your heart.”

Both episodes of What Happened, Brittany Murphy? premiere on HBO Max on October 14th, but it is unknown when it will arrive on Irish TVs.
