Ballet Ireland Nutcracker Sweeties

The perfect way to kick off the holiday season.

Most of us are familiar with the famous tale of the Nutcracker – a classic ballet that is often shown in theatres around the world around Christmas time.

And this year, whether you’re looking for a cosy date night to schedule in coming into the colder winter nights or even something to kick off the festive season with the kiddos, Ballet Ireland have announced their long-awaited post-pandemic return to the stage with Nutcracker Sweeties’ – an Irish twist on a classic Christmas tale.

The brand new show promises to transport audiences into a world of both the familiar and maybe slightly more unfamiliar with their Irish tale of ‘Nutcracker Sweeties.’

Set in a department store in Dublin, Ciara and her brother Fionn wander off from their parents where the magic of The Nutcracker begins. The pair are rescued by the Nutcracker Doll who comes to life transporting them to the magical Kingdom of The Sweets where the two meet the majestic Sugar Plum Fairy.

Ballet Ireland is Ireland’s only ballet company to return to the stage this year, which is the perfect excuse to get to the theatre and immerse yourself in a night pure of magic.

Speaking on Ballet Ireland’s ‘Nutcracker Sweeties’, Anne Maher, Director and Co-Founder of Ballet Ireland said:

“We couldn’t be more excited for Ballet Ireland’s momentous return to live theatre. After a tumultuous 18 months for the arts industry, we are ready and waiting to give this production the stage it deserves in the theatre. The twelve dancers have worked round the clock to bring audiences an incredible production of everyone’s favourite Christmas tale – The Nutcracker. This truly is a production for all to enjoy and simply shouldn’t be missed”.

With choreography by Morgann Runacre-Temple, audiences of all ages will be enthralled by Nutcracker Sweeties’ fairytale magic, exquisite costumes and a re-imagined Tchaikovsky score. A tale of wondrous adventure that combines to form one of the most delectable Christmas confections imaginable.
