‘Grandma Camp’ is a thing, and we’re not sure it’ll take off in Ireland

Olivia Hayes

Grandma Camp seems to be taking off around the world… but will it sit well in Ireland?

Most of our parents are great and will mind the little ones no matter what… so why set up Grandma Camp? Well, apparently it’s to bring all the kids together.

Yep, hosting a ‘camp’ (which takes part over a few days) for the kids full of activities and treats is a new upcoming trend, but imagine how exhausting that would be?

LiveAbout says of Grandma Camps: “Lots of grandparents like to host all of their grandchildren at once. The older grandkids can be pressed into service to help with the younger ones, and one of the points is to get the grandchildren better acquainted with each other.”

And it seems like parents are not allowed in, until the last day anyway: “Most grandparents feel that the spirit of Grandma Camp requires that the parents be gone for at least part of the time.

“Sometimes the parents are invited for the final day or hours of the event. That’s not a bad idea, as the grandparents may need some help by then.”

Grandma Camp organisers also think you should set up sleeping routines, eating charts and cleaning rotas… so you know, it takes a lot of planning.

While we love our kids spending time with their grandparents, we think a few days of camping – full with kids – might be a bit too much to handle. What do you think, mamas?
