Review Jurassic World Dominion: There’s something for fans old and new

Melissa Carton

Honestly, I’d watch it again for Goldblum alone.

Being a 90s kid the original Jurassic Park movie will always have a special place in my heart.

I’ll be honest until watching Jurassic World Dominion, I had not seen any of the more recent Jurassic movies and I went into this one a little apprehensive (especially since it’s almost three hours long) but I have to say there were some great moments in it that definitely made it worth the trip to the cinema.

First off the original cast of Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill and Laura Dern are back!

I won’t lie, I was more invested in their storyline than that of the new cast but both storylines come together quite nicely in the last half of the movie.

My ten-year-old who was with me was the opposite way around and was really into what was happening with the newer cast members as they had to battle more dinosaurs and for a child that’s always going to be more exciting.

Without ruining any plot points Dominion takes place four years after Isla Nublar has been destroyed.

Dinosaurs now live and hunt alongside humans all over the world.

This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history’s most fearsome creatures.

Human survival is also at risk when a new species of locust threatens to wipe out all of Earth’s food sources.

I’ve seen a lot of reviews slating this movie, but I think a lot of film critics are not taking it for what it is…. a film about dinosaurs aimed mostly at children.

A film like Dominion is not out here trying to win Oscars, it’s job is to be a fun family-friendly sci-fi action movie, and at that I think it succeeds.

Do I think it’s as good as the original Jurassic Park? No. Do I think your kids will probably enjoy going to see it? Yes.

Personally I think there’s a little something for the older fans of the franchise and the new fans in this film and I would recommend catching it while it’s in movie theatres (which it is from today June 10th).

Honestly though you could just watch it for the scenes with Jeff Goldblum as he had me in stitches just about every time he was on screen.
