The perfect family film to round off the Easter holidays is on tonight

Who else is dying to get back to routine?

We know we are – our list of fun activities, our fridges and our bank balances have all been exhausted over the Easter Holidays trying to keep the little ones occupied.

Thankfully all good things come to an end and they’re back to school tomorrow but before that, why not settle down as a family and watch the perfect film for kids coming down from a week of sugar highs?

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is on ITV2 at 6.55 this evening.

The 2005 movie, based on Roald Dahl’s classic childhood book, stars Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka and Freddy Highmore as the titular Charlie.

As it’s directed by Tim Burton (BeetlejuiceEdward ScissorhandsThe Nightmare Before Christmas, Alice In Wonderland), there’s an eerier feel to this film than 1971’s Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory that means grown-ups will it enjoy just as much as kids.

If an adventure through a magical chocolate factory doesn’t interest the family, the return of RTÉ’s The Zoo just might.

The show that gives audiences a sneak behind the closed doors at Dublin Zoo and the loveable animals who live there is back for its eighth season and we’ll be meeting a whole host of new characters.

In episode one, we see Sari, a Bornean orangutan soon to make a move from Barcelona Zoo, introduced to Dublin Zoo’s dominant male orangutan, Sibu, through an international programme dubbed ‘Tinder for Orangutans’.

It airs at 7.30 this evening, Sunday 8 April, on RTÉ One.
