Watership Down is on Netflix this weekend if you fancy being traumatised

Melissa Carton

Watership Down is coming to Netflix this weekend.

I have to admit I’ve never seen any version of the classic tale as my mother refused to let me watch it. A big part of this was because she was still dealing with the trauma of seeing it as a child. That and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

If you were one of the many children who grew up with the heartbreaking rabbit tale and want to take a walk down memory lane or introduce your own children to the story, you can now that it’s on Netflix.

Adapted for the screen by Tom Bidwell (My Mad Fat Diary), Watership Down uses Richard Adams’ bestselling novel as its source to bring an innovative interpretation to the beloved story.

Set in the idyllic rural landscape of southern England, this tale of adventure, courage and survival follows a band of rabbits on their flight from the intrusion of man and the certain destruction of their home.

Led by two brothers, they journey forth from their native Sandleford Warren through the harrowing trials posed by predators and adversaries, towards a promised land and a more perfect society.

James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, John Boyega, Gemma Arterton, Daniel Kaluuya, Ben Kingsley, Oscar winner Olivia Colman and many more lend their voices to this epic tale.
