“I cried next to my husband for 95 days watching what Covid did to the person I love.”
Amanda Kloots has called Donald Trump’s recent comments on Covid-19 “disgraceful” and “deeply hurtful.”
The theatre actor, who lost her husband Nick Cordero to coronavirus complications earlier this year, responded to the US President’s claim that after contracting Covid-19 he felt “better than I did 20 years ago.”
Trump and First Lady Melania were confirmed to have contracted the virus last week. After two days in hospital, the President returned to the White House and urged Americans not to be afraid of Covid.
Kloots, whose husband suffered severe and fatal complications after contracting coronavirus, took to Instagram this week to condemn Trump’s comments.

“To all the over 208,000 Americans who lost loved ones to this virus – I stand by you, with you, holding your hand,” she wrote on Instagram. “Unfortunately it did dominate our lives didn’t it? It dominated Nick’s family’s lives and my family’s lives. I guess we “let it” – like it was our choice??
“Unfortunately not everyone is lucky enough to spend two days in the hospital. I cried next to my husband for 95 days watching what Covid did to the person I love. It IS something to be afraid of.”

Nick Cordero, a Broadwa theatre actor, passed away earlier this summer aged 41.
He had contracted coronavirus in March and spent over three months in hospital in a critical condition. His right leg was amputated following complications and he also received treatment for major lung damage.
Kloots, who has a son with Cordero, one-year-old Elvis, wrote that Trump’s flippant comments on the virus were “disgraceful.”
“After you see the person you love the most die from this disease you would never say what this tweet says,” she said.
“There is no empathy to all the lives lost. He is bragging instead. It is sad. It is hurtful. It is disgraceful.”
Over 200,000 Americans have died from Covid-19 since March.
