Bono has opened up about the guilt he used to feel when he left his kids to go on tour.

The U2 frontman said that he used to feel “shite” about leaving his family, but that he eventually got over it.

Speaking to the Karson and Kennedy Show in Boston, he said that he realised missing his children’s milestones wasn’t really a big deal when they didn’t seem too bothered about it themselves.

“I used to feel really shite and it really hurt and then I got over it when I was actually dropping my youngest son on his first day of school and he said ’would you mind parking around the corner?’”

Bono also said that he’s grateful for having children who support his career.

“The thing about your kids, if you are doing what you want to do, if you are doing what you love, they feel that.

It’s much harder when if you are pushing a rock up the hill and it’s a rock someone else owns and you don’t feel the same connection which is how most of us go through our life.

We are so blessed to do what we love. I think the kids feel that.”

U2’s new song, You’re the Best Thing About Me was being played on the radio show.

The single was released earlier this week.
