A lovely gesture.

“I promise to be an amazing mother to your son.”

A video of a bride’s vows to her husband’s ex and son have gone viral.

Katie Musser from Pennsylvania in the US recently married her partner Jeremy Wade and not only was Jeremy’s son Landon part of the big day, his Casey,  was there too.

During the couple’s vows, Katie took time to make commitments to Casey and her new stepson.

“First, I want to thank you for accepting me as your friend and allowing me to be a part of Landon’s life,” she told Casey.

“I promise to be an amazing mother to your son. I will guide, teach and love him every single day.

“I promise to respect, work, listen, and communicate together as co-parents. I will love you guys no matter what comes our way. We are one family always.”

To Landon, she said: “I promise to stand by you, listen to you and love you every day. I promise to love daddy with all my heart.

“I promise to be a best friend to mommy and your daddy Tyler. We will be one big family that I promise you will have for the rest of your life.”

The video, shared by Love What Matters on Facebook, has been watched almost 600,000 times to date.

In a post on her own page this week, Katie explained that she and and Casey did not get along at first.

“Casey and I hated each other. So many stories, rumors, and judgements, but what would you expect? That’s all we ever saw. That’s the norm. You don’t like the ‘other person’.

“One day, I woke up and thought, ‘I truly hate who I have become.”

She contacted Casey and the two women chatted and slowly built a friendship.

“It was not easy. You can’t trust someone in a second. Eventually we started having ‘mommy dates’ and talked about everything from ourselves, Landon, and even old relationships.

“The one thing we had in common though was Landon. Landon was and is the beat to our heart.”

“I may not have been there for his first step, potty training, or his first dentist appointment, but Casey respected me like I was. She still treated me like his mom. It never was an act (although I thought it was at times). She was true.”

Katie explained that Casey saved her “without even realising it” and that their story is proof that co-parenting between parents and stepparents is possible.

“Everyone facing custody problems, acceptance, understanding, relationship problems, etc. We get it. Not everyone gets the luxury of having a relationship like we formed.

“But it’s possible to get along, communicate, and give the same rules/love/respect on both sides for your child/children.”
