Dog finally reunited with owner after going missing for 12 years

Finally, some good news.

A dog who went missing 12 years ago has finally been reunited with her owner.

Duchess the Fox Terrier escaped her garden in Florida in 2007.

Her owner, Katheryn Strang, searched for her for years, always renewing the Duchess’s microchip in the hope that somebody would find her.

And then one day, she was found shivering under a shed in Pittsburgh – 12 years after she had been last seen.

“I’m just so happy to have her back. I cried so many nights without her,” Strang told CBS Pittsburgh.

“I was at work, and my son, who was 12-years-old accidentally opened the door in the afternoon after school one day and we never saw her again.

“I held out hope because I paid for that microchip every year. It was $15 a year I wasn’t going to give up hope for that. Always hope.”

Duchess was taken to the Humane Animal Rescue in Pittsburgh when she was scanned for a microchip, revealing that she was registered to Strang.

Her owner then drove 18 hours from her home to the shelter to pick up Duchess – an reunion that was undoubtedly going to be emotional.

It is not known where Duchess was for the past 12 years.
