Duchess Kate says that ‘nothing’ could have prepared her for motherhood

Gillian Fitzpatrick

Most mums are united on one thing: that first year (while joyous too) is damn tough.

And it’s something that the Duchess of Cambridge touched on today.

She was at a mental health charity event and praised her brother-in-law, Prince Harry, for speaking about how he struggled in the aftermath of his mother Diana’s death.

DailyMail.com reports that Kate earlier met with DJ Neev Spencer – who suffered with postnatal depression after the birth of her daughter, Genevieve, now nine months.

The 35-year-old British royal told her: “Nothing can prepare you for motherhood – especially the first time round, the mixed emotions.”

Mixed emotions we know ALL about too: you can go from laughing and bursting with love to angry and bursting into tears in a matter of moments.

In the past, the Duchess has also spoken about suffering from a “lack of confidence” as a first-time mother. And she’s called being a parent a “huge challenge”.

She and her husband of six years, William, 34, have two children: the adorable George and Charlotte who are four and two respectively.

George will start ‘big school’ in September – attending Thomas’s Battersea in London, an institution which does not have traditional royal links.
