McFly’s Harry Judd has told how he and wife Izzy’s battle to conceive via IVF put a strain on their marriage.

The couple, who tied the knot in 2012, are now the proud parents of a son and a daughter.

But the road to parenthood proved to be difficult for the pair, after Izzy was diagnosed with polycystic ovaries and they were struggling to conceive.

The McFly drummer has revealed that the struggle put an unexpected strain on their relationship, as he opened up about their tumultuous journey to becoming parents.

He told The Sun’s Fabulous magazine:

“Izzy so desperately wanted to be a mother and so as soon as we realised there was a problem, it took over her life.

“She went for medical procedures and help and took all the pills and all the things she was told to and it was very testing on her.

“And everyone else around us was getting pregnant. Izzy wasn’t even ovulating, so there was no chance of getting pregnant.”

The dad-of-two went on to recall how, as Izzy took medication to help her conceive, the dynamic in the relationship began to change.

He said:

“The dynamic changed because all the focus was on getting pregnant and in a way I lost her a little bit. I lost that smiley, confident, beautiful wife.

“Our wedding had been the happiest day of our lives – cut to a year later and she’s in absolute despair.

“I remember after two years thinking: ‘God, we haven’t even had a kid and already I’m sick of this.’

“It was constant but I felt I couldn’t get frustrated at her.”

The couple conceived in 2014 after a first attempt at IVF, although Izzy sadly miscarried seven weeks later.

The second round of IVF was successful, and the pair welcomed their first daughter Lola in January 2016.

Harry added:

“It had been this build up of three years of mainly downs, and then the moment she was born it was this huge outpouring of emotion.

“It was such a euphoric feeling and it’s been amazing ever since. I am utterly besotted with her. She’s a constant focus.

“There’s a responsibility to look after myself for my kids’ sake and everything I do now is for them.

“I want to secure our future and have a stable and happy life. That’s all I want.”

The doting parents confirmed they had welcomed their second child together, a son named Kit, earlier this summer.

Announcing the news at the time, Harry praised his “hero” wife.

He tweeted:

“We have a son! Kit Harry Francis Judd arrived this morning at 6:37. Both he & his Mummy are doing very well! @mrs_izzyjudd is my hero.”
