They were once BFFs.

That she’s been married previously is certainly a departure from the norm in royal circles.

Still, there is no doubt that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are totally and madly in love.

Now, as reported by DailyMail.com, the US actress’s childhood BFF has stated why she believes that first marriage ultimately broke down.

Yes, Ninaki Priddy claims that Meghan’s ‘desire to be famous’ outweighed her commitment to her marriage to film producer, Trevor Nelson.

Meghan and Mr Nelson married in 2011 – the same year Wills and Kate said ‘I do’ – on a Jamaican beach.

They split two years later after she landed her role in Suits, which was filmed in Toronto.

“The way she handled it, Trevor definitely had the rug pulled out from under him. He was hurt,” she told DailyMail.com.

Ninaki was maid-of-honour at the wedding and she says the pair were once madly in love.

“Then, after the wedding, it was like a light switched off. There’s Meghan before fame and Meghan after fame. After three seasons of Suits, she called me to say the marriage was over,” Ms Priddy added.

She and Ms Markle have know each other since they were two and also went to school together. However, they ultimately fell out over Trevor.

This week, it was revealed that Harry and Meghan have decided on a date of Saturday, May 26 for their wedding.

The couple will marry in Windsor Castle, but their choice of date breaks royal tradition: titled folk in Britain usually marry on a weekday.

Wills and Kate, for example, opted for a Thursday (April 29, 2011) with the Queen and Prince Philip also marrying on a Thursday (November 20, 1947). Charles and Diana decided on a Wednesday (July 29, 1981).
