Michelle Heaton has said that it “kills her” that her children might have the same cancer gene she has.

The singer said that she is still struggling following her elective double mastectomy in 2012 and her hysterectomy in 2014.

Heaton opted for the surgeries upon discovering that she carried the BRCA2 gene mutation, meaning that her chances of developing cancer were high.

She told Lorraine today:

“Moments like this where I get to dress up… I get a little bit of me back on the outside. But what’s going on underneath is far from it and I’m struggling.

“It’s not easy. And obviously knowing that my children could potentially have to go through what I went through just kills me.”

“I’ve had some really dark times. I’m still not over it.”

The mum of two also said that she feels “ashamed” of how she acted around her children when she was going through the menopause.

Heaton has two children – six-year-old Faith and four-year-old AJ.

She started the menopause at age 35.

In her book, she said:

“My rage makes my kids cry… I’m really ashamed of what I’ve had to write.

“There are moments in there when I’m ashamed. There are moments in there where I have been such a horrible person to my husband, to my kids, to my mum. I don’t like me.”

Heaton married Irish businessman Hugh Hanley in 2010.
