One of our favourite celeb mamas has come in for criticism over her comments on being a single mum.
To mark the 100th anniversary of women earning the right to vote in Britain, Stacey Solomon took to Instagram this morning to share a post about raising her sons to be feminists.
In it, she referred to herself as a ‘single mum’.
“Sometimes being a single mum makes you want to cry but on a day like today I’m so excited to know that with my unconditional love and attention my boys are going to be bad ass feminists, (feminism meaning: equality of the sexes) fighting for equality and knowing how to respect women.”
The post has clocked up thousands of like but many followers questioned why she called herself a single mum, given her relationship with Joe Swash.
One fan even went as far as to say that Joe ought to be “hurt and pissed off”.
“Single mum……?? your in a full time relationship with Joe Swash are you not……. Im in a relationship with my partner, does that mean I can post on insta that I’m a single dad.”
“You’re not a single Mum though? You’re in a relationship xx”
“My ex lives with my boys and has a new partner but she don’t class herself as single
“It doesn’t matter if he is the boys real father or not, he plays a part in their day to day life! I’m all about Stacey Solomon I think she’s brilliant, but if I was joe and I read her status I’d be a little hurt and Pissed off!”
Other fans defended Stacey, who raised her boys, nine-year-old Zachary and five-year-old Leighton, alone before she and Joe got together in January of 2016.
“Her marital status is single & she lives with her boys. That’s a single mum!!
“For those saying she’s not a single mum because of Joe. Yes she has Joe now. She didn’t. She’s raised the boys majority of their life alone. Yes Joe is in her life now but either way she’s done it on her own from the beginning therefore is a single mother.”
