The tender moment mum catches son comforting his baby brother who has terminal cancer

Amanda Cassidy

Four-month-old Thomas has been diagnosed with a rare and terminal cancer.

His mum, Sheryl says the family just want to spend as much time as possible with him before his short life ends.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, the Australian mum-of-two said she noticed the boys (3-year-old William and baby Thomas) were a little quiet so tiptoed in to see what they were up to.

She said what she saw next brought her to tears.

‘I tiptoed to the lounge with my camera ready to catch anything they are doing. I was expecting my baby to be covered in Nutella or something but instead I saw this. My preschooler is telling his baby brother “Kuya (big brother) is here. Everything is ok”.’

The boys are devoted to each other – their favourite thing is making each other smile. Sheryl says she is not sure William really understands how sick his little brother is but he knew his comfort was helping in some way.

She says not knowing how long she has left is heartbreaking:

‘We film him constantly and stare at him and kiss him. We as a family are trying to cope the best way we can, but it has been very hard. There are tears and that immense pain of losing someone you love so much.”
