This Roscommon dad singing to his daughter at her wedding had us in bits

Just lovely.

BRB, there’s something in our eye.

Dads and daughters, eh? They’ll always let on that they’re tough but when it comes to their girls, they’re all softies.

One man who wanted to show his daughter how much she means to him on her wedding day has inadvertently gone viral in a video that left us reaching for the tissues.

Cathy Martin and Damien Horan got married in her local church in Keadue, Co. Roscommon on Saturday after almost ten years together.

The couple (and the congregation) were visibly shocked when the bride’s father, Sean Martin, interrupted the ceremony to serenade his little girl.

Sean had the couple and their guests enthralled as he gave his rendition of Jimmy Buckley’s Your Wedding Day, though he made the song his own with a few alterations.

He’s been known to sing the odd song and play the guitar at family occasions over the years, a guest told us, but no-one knew he’d been preparing a surprise performance for Cathy and Damien’s big day.

Cathy and her dad shared a hug after the song and we’re reliably informed that there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

The clip, captured by P.A.N. Digital Wedding Videos, has been viewed over 5,000 times on Facebook in the past 24 hours.

Cathy and new husband Damien, who hails from Croghan in Co. Roscommon, continued the day’s celebrations with a reception at Kilronan Castle.
