3 St Patrick’s Day cocktails you can make tonight with minimal ingredients

Jade Hayden

Happy St Patrick’s Day!

As long as you’re not having a party, that is.

With social distancing in full swing, it would be incredibly irresponsible of you to do so given the current coronavirus climate.

The pubs are shut, but that doesn’t mean that you can go swanning off to a gaff party where there’ll be a load of people failing to stay one metre away from one another.

It does, however, mean that you can rustle up yourself a few delicious Paddy’s Day inspired cocktails to enjoy in the comfort of your own home with the people who already live there – and nobody else.

Irish Cream Mint Martini

Because who among us doesn’t have a bottle of Baileys floating around the house?

You will need:

  • Baileys Irish Cream
  • Creme de menthe liqueur (or failing that, vodka and some crushed mint)
  • Fresh cream
  • Ice
  • Chocolate shavings

Method:

Add two servings of Baileys, one serving of creme de menthe or vodka, and about 40ml of cream to a cocktail shaker with ice.

Shake well and strain into a pretty glass. Add more cream to the top and dust with chocolate shavings.

St Patrick’s Punch

Fruity, light, and bound to send you on your way.

You will need:

  • Vodka
  • Rum
  • Lemonade
  • Fresh strawberries
  • Lime
  • Pineapple
  • A sprig of mint
  • 7up
  • Ice

Method:

Stir all ingredients in a large pitcher or bowl, using four times as much non-alcohol drink as alcoholic. Blitz the fruit in a blender before adding, if that’s your style.

Add more vodka and rum as necessary. Enjoy.

Spicy Snake Mojito

Because St Patrick didn’t banish all the snakes, wha?

You will need:

  • Rum
  • Mint leaves
  • Lime
  • Jalapeños
  • Sparkling water
  • Ice

Method:

Muddle the mint leaves, lime, and as many jalapeños as you see fit in a long glass with some ice.

Add two servings of white rum and finish with sparkling water. Line the glass rim with sugar and serve.
