A simple recipe you can make with the kids over the Christmas holidays

Melissa Carton

The Christmas holidays have come so what better excuse to get in some baking with the kids?

My kids love making scones but sometimes it’s nice to have a bit of a change and try something different.

As most of us will already have some porridge stocked up in the press, why not break out the oats and try this recipe which sounds absolutely delicious.

INGREDIENTS
1 large tub (500ml) of natural yogurt
1 beaten egg
1 tbsp. treacle (optional)
300g (12oz) of Flahavan’s Progress Oatlets
2 tsp bread soda
2 tbsp. mixed seeds (optional)
½ tsp salt (optional)
Makes 1 x 2lb loaf

METHOD
1. Place the yogurt, beaten egg and treacle in a bowl and mix well.
2. Mix the oats, bread soda, seeds and salt in a separate bowl, add to the yogurt mixture and stir thoroughly.
3. Place in a greased or parchment lined 2lb loaf tin, sprinkle with oats and bake at 180C / 350F / Gas mark 4 for 30 minutes.
4. Lower temperature to 150ÅãC / 300ÅãF / Gas mark 2 and cook for a further 30 minutes.
