Bewley’s opens free takeaway coffee drive-thru service for frontline workers

A great initiative – and some great coffee too, in fairness.

There are many people who have emerged as heroes during the Covid-19 pandemic – most of all Ireland’s frontline workers, who have undertaken the monumental task of keeping patients safe and well during the crisis.

The work is harder than any of us could ever imagine, the hours are far longer than what you’d expect, and the hardship is beyond anything that most people have ever experienced.

Yet, they keep going – and although it often seems as if there is very little we can do to help, sometimes a simple gesture goes a long way.

Bewley’s is the latest coffeehouse to set up shop and offer all frontline workers free barista coffee and tea from a new drive-thru service.

The Bewley’s Container Café opened today (April 15) at the company’s headquarters in Northern Cross Co. Dublin, where they have been serving hot drinks to all frontline and emergency services workers passing through.

Bewley’s MD Jason Doyle said he hopes the token will help, even “if in a small way.”

“In these difficult times it is important that we all work together and support one another,” he said.

“Community and people are at the heart of Bewley’s and we want to show our gratitude to the HSE frontline staff and emergency services for the work they are doing during this pandemic.

“We hope this token of our appreciation will assist, if in a small way, in making day to day life a little easier for these heroic members of our community.”

Bewley’s Container Coffee will be serving from 8.30am – 3pm Monday to Friday.
