This is how you can make coconut taste like bacon (seriously)

Trine Jensen-Burke

You know how some crispy fried bacon is pretty much the most amazing thing in the world?

Like, it make avocados taste 250% better. It goes perfectly with eggs (obvs), and is also the most delicious topping for pancakes, pasta and a whole bunch of other things too.

The thing is, bacon is not the healthiest thing you can eat… Which means that for many of us, it becomes a treat to be enjoyed every now and again, and certainly not every day.

Or so we thought – until we came across this amazing bacon substitute made from coconut flakes. I KNOW! Coconut flakes! It sounds like all sorts of craziness, but this blogger actually claims it works.

Are you curious?

What you need: Coconut flakes, soy sauce, maple syrup and liquid smoke (you will find this in a well-stocked supermarket, usually kept near barbeque sauces and marinades, or here on Amazon)

What you do: Basically, you mix all of the aforementioned ingredients together, spread them in a thin layer on a lined sheet pan and bake for about 14 minutes. After that, you can use this stuff just as you would normal bacon.

Why it’s great: It’s a healthier alternative that tastes incredibly similar to the real thing. Consider our lunches upgraded and our minds blown.
