This caramelized white hot chocolate is what Christmas Eve was made for

Say hello to your new favourite tipple.

Trine Jensen-Burke

If there is one thing we are loving about the colder season (and bloody rain) being upon us, it is the fact that the miserable outdoor conditions leave us with little else to do than just snuggle up inside.

So if you, like us, are all set for lovely indoor afternoons, filled with old Christmas movies and great box sets, you might be in the market for the perfect little drink to go with your festive set-up. And fear not; we have the number one solution. This drink is is so good, you’d be forgive for serving it it for dessert.

Meet the most decadent white hot chocolate you have ever had.

Ingredients

4 ounces white chocolate
6 ounces milk
2 ounces cream
Vanilla bean, optional
Cinnamon stick, optional
Salt, to taste

Directions

Preheat the oven to 300°F and put the white chocolate in a glass or ceramic baking dish. No need to chop. Toss it in the oven and roast, stirring every 10 minutes or so. The white chocolate will be lumpy and crumbly, but that’s okay. Keep going until it takes on a peanut butter-like color, about 30 minutes total.

Meanwhile, bring the milk and cream to a simmer in a small pot. If you like, toss in a vanilla bean or cinnamon stick to add another layer of flavor.

When the white chocolate comes out of the oven, scrape it into the hot milk-mixture and whisk until smooth.

Season with a pinch of salt.

Ladle into mugs and enjoy. Let’s all just worry about calories in January, OK…?
