Say hello to the delicious chocolate granola that will brighten up your mornings

Trine Jensen-Burke

Ah, the mornings are slowly getting brighter but we’re still finding it hard to get out of bed. Who wouldn’t like a breakfast that at least makes getting up in the AM a little more fun?

Good news. This gorgeous and easy to make cacao spiced granola will tick all the boxes. It is healthy, versatile (equally yum sprinkled over Greek yoghurt as onto a steaming bowl of porridge) and will make your entire kitchen smell like chocolate. In other words; a real breakfast winner.

Here is what you need:

2 cups rolled oats
1/3 cup nuts (I used almonds, hazelnuts and walnuts), chopped
1/3 cup seeds (I used pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds)
3 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons cacao
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
2 tablespoons chia seeds
2 tablespoons hemp seeds
1/3 cup raisins

This is what you do:

1 Start by melting the honey on a pan on a little above medium heat, when it has melted add the oats, seeds and nuts. Keep stirring until everything is coated in honey, then add the spices and make sure to stir every few minutes until it is lightly toasted (takes about 10 minutes), then allow the granola to cool .

2 Pour onto a piece of baking paper. When the granola have cooled, you can mix in the chia seeds, hemp seeds and raisins.

3 Store the granola in an airtight jar, it keeps for about 2 weeks.

Serving suggestion: Eat on top of Skyr (available in well stocked health food stores)) or Greek yoghurt. Drizzle with acacia honey, a crisp chopped apple and a spoonful of almond butter.
