10-year-old girl forces Coco Pops to change their ‘sexist’ slogan

Coco Pops has changed their slogan after a 10-year-old girl told them it was “sexist.”

Hannah-Marie Clayton didn’t agree with the cereal’s claim that the product was only “Loved by kids, approved by mums” because she said it was her dad who often made her breakfast.

She decided to write Kellog’s a letter explaining why she thought the slogan should be changed.

Hannah-Marie also added that some children who don’t have a mum might have been upset by the phrasing.

The Mirror reports that the Dorset girl later received a letter back saying that the slogan would read “Loved by kids, approved by parents” on all Coco Pops boxes in the near future.

In her letter, Hannah-Marie wrote:

“I feel that quote is sexist, men are also able to make breakfast. My dad does it a lot for me because my mum works away a lot and is not always there for breakfast.

“I would recommend instead of putting ‘mums’, put parents or carers. It would just mean a small change. In this world today we shouldn’t just rely on women.”

The 10-year-old said that she was shocked to get a reply from Kellog’s saying that they were going to change the slogan thanks to her letter.

The reply stated:

“You recently shared your thoughts around the statement of ‘Approved by Mums’ on our improved recipe Coco Pops.

“I wanted to let you know that we’ve recently renewed our research and our new pack design will refer to approval from both mums and dads.

Go on, Hannah-Marie.
