Katie Mythen-Lynch

Winter 2016 was essentially the period in history when Ireland completely lost its mind for decadent donuts in every conceivable flavour, so summer is going to have a lot to live up to in the sugar stakes.

Never one to disappoint, Sweet Republic on Bachelor’s Quay has unveiled their latest creation: the donut ice cream sandwich.

In case you were in any doubt, this does exactly what it says on the tin. It’s a fresh iced donut, sliced in half and filled with your choice of ice-creamy filling. Heaven.

Sweet Republic may appear as if butter wouldn’t melt, but this is not their first time at the fat-bomb rodeo.

They’re also responsible for the cookie ice cream sandwich…

Oh, and S’Mores French Toast…

However, the sun is shining across the capital (and set to stay for a few days, apparently) so what better time to indulge?

Just don’t tell your personal trainer you’re considering a visit.
