Galway’s first gin bar has opened and we’re planning a road trip

Cathy Donohue

Oh you know, only ONE HUNDRED different varieties of gin to choose from.

Galway’s first gin bar, Tigh Nora, has opened and it’s perfectly located in the heart of the lively Latin Quarter, right next to The Front Door (another popular watering hole as Galway goers well know).

Although gin is the focus at Tigh Nora, the drinks menu also boasts draft beer, whisky, wine and cocktails and if you get peckish, choose from tapas, sharing boards and daily specials….very fancy altogether.

Tigh Nora is named in honour of Nora Barnacle, wife of James Joyce, who will forever be remembered as one of the greats of Irish literature.

Nora hailed from Galway and according to hearsay, she passed the very spot where Tigh Nora is housed every day on her way to school, which makes the gin bar’s name a rather fitting one.

With an open fire, packed bookshelves, comfy chairs and a LOT of gin, we have a feeling this snug little spot could become one of the most popular haunts in the City of Tribes.

We’ll see you there…
