This peanut butter hot chocolate will blow your mind

Katie Mythen-Lynch

With the chilly conditions hanging around well into spring, there’s really nothing for it except to snuggle up in a onesie and extend the hibernation for another few weeks.

As every snuggle-pro knows, there’s only two absolute necessities when it comes to riding out the wintery conditions on the sofa: a stock of classic movies and a vat of hot chocolate. And boy have we got a recipe for the latter for you…

This melting mass of heavenly cocoa, smooth peanut butter and cream is quite possibly the most delicious thing you’ll taste this year so our advice is to share it with the kids or use it to spoil a mum mate.

With any luck this frosty weather will hang around for a few more months.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup + 1 tablespoon chopped peanut butter cups
  • 2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter
Peanut Butter Whipped Cream
  • 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. In a large saucepan, heat the milk until hot (not boiling). Whisk in the cocoa powder, powdered sugar, and salt until smooth then whisk in the peanut butter and 1/2 cup peanut butter cups until melted and smooth. Divide between two mugs and top with peanut butter whipped cream (recipe below) and remaining 1 tablespoon peanut butter cups.

  1. In a large mixing bowl beat the cream until it thickens and soft peaks form. Add the powdered sugar, peanut butter, and vanilla then continue beating until stiff peaks form (peaks will form but not fall over).
