YES! Eating cheese WON’T increase your risk of a heart attack

Jade Hayden

Best news we’ve heard all year, tbh.

Cheese is the greatest creation known to man. Here’s a couple of reasons why:

  • It’s creamy.
  • It’s delicious.
  • You can put it on any kind of food including but not restricted to sandwiches, curries, and soup.

When it comes to our health though, cheese doesn’t have the greatest reputation. You’d hardly be starting the newest fad diet and discover that you get to eat a load of mozzarella for it.

Very unlikely.

Lucky for us though because a new study has shown that cheese might not be as unhealthy as we thought.

It’s still not necessarily good for you… but it’s slightly less bad than we thought so we are absolutely going to run with that to be honest.

Research published in the The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition this month showed that cheese doesn’t actually increase your risk of dying by heart attack.

Which is good news, in fairness.

The study included data from almost 3,000 adults over a 22 year period and showed that consuming a lot of the saturated fat found in dairy products such as milk and cheese didn’t actually have any effect on whether people developed cardiovascular diseases or not.

Unreal.

In fact, the research indicated that the people with higher levels of fatty acids in their blood had a 42 percent lower risk of dying from a stroke.

Lead author Dr Marcia Otto said:

“Our findings not only support, but also significantly strengthen, the growing body of evidence which suggests that dairy fat, contrary to popular belief, does not increase risk of heart disease or overall mortality in older adults.

“In addition to not contributing to death, the results suggest that one fatty acid present in dairy may lower risk of death from cardiovascular disease, particularly from stroke.”

Good to know.

Now, that’s not to say you can go eat your weight in gorgonzola and you won’t feel any negative health effects… because you absolutely will.

But it’s nice to know consuming a few fatty acids won’t kill us.
